Federal election 2010

A few pics of the leaders in action thus far ....

Childers 'Palace Backpackers' 10 year memorial service.

It was another solemn occasion to document the 10 year anniversary of the Palace Backpackers fire in Childers.

A number of survivors of the disaster joined family members of the victims as well as foreign diplomats, members of parliament, emergency service personnel, local councillors and townsfolk - many of whom were on the scene that fatal night ten years ago when an arsonist set fire to the historic Palace building which led to the loss of 15 lives.

It was a pleasure to spend time with Mr and Mrs George and Sheila Webb who tragically lost their daughter Claire to the fire. The Webb's travelled from their home near Bognor Regis in the UK to be at the ceremony.

The British High Commissioner Baroness Valerie Amos was on hand to represent her nationals and provided great support to Mr and Mrs Webb as well as others caught up in the tragedy.

A few pictures -

From Afghanistan to Gayndah.

Sapper Jacob Moerlands funeral in Gayndah was the most emotional and gut wrenching event that I have photographed.

Just prior to the soldiers coffin being carried from the town hall, amidst the stillness and silence a lone black dog trotted the length of the main street stopping to sniff mourners legs, it was quite surreal.

At the same time a group of Vietnam Vets silently walked up the street to fall into position - the only sound to be heard was their medals clanging together.

Today it was announced that another three Australian soldiers have been killed in Afghanistan bringing the total to 16.

Sapper Tim Westera also serving on the front line in Afghanistan was in charge of escorting his mates caskets back to Australia. The first pictures are of Tim speaking with Prime Minister Rudd and Federal Opposition leader Tony Abbott after the funeral.

Will Smith London premiere

It was great to snap Will Smith and his crew in London on February 5,2009. A crowd of approximately 5000 people gathered the see the star and it was great to see him mingle and chat with as many fans as possible including hugging, handshaking and having pictures taken with a group of 20 or so admirers confined to wheelchairs.

News Photography

The French Gendarmerie Nationale are amongst the toughest Police force in the world. These guys sort situations out first then ask questions later ( I suspect they get away with not asking too many questions at all...)
In Paris last February I was on the scene of a number of of civil disputes regarding university fee increases. In one week we saw 3 of these 'manifestations'. The Gendams were not too impressed having their photos taken.
At one gathering near Gare de Nord where tear gas was used against the crowd I saw a photographer have his camera confiscated ( he was given no receipt or documentation).
Around the corner from another protest I came across a full body armour clad Gendam relieving himself against a wall ... I got one slightly blurred shot before he turned and told me to ^%$& off.

Fishing World cover shot .

I'm thrilled to have the cover shot on this months Fishing World, an Australian National monthly fishing magazine. The angler is good mate Andy Beer from Sydney. Fish is a 10 lb Golden Trevally caught on the flats inside Fraser Island. The magazine features a Nick Reygeart article on Flats fishing for Golden Trevally in Hervey Bay and it is a great read.

Look who's caught the big one...

Fraser Coast Chronicle editor Peter Chapman with a solid Hervey Bay Longtail Tuna .... I had been following Peters tales of fishing woe for some time until finally we found a slot in our schedules to get out on the water. It rained all day and the fish were not staying up for long, but fortunately we still managed to boat a few fish including this estimated 15kg longtail. Nice work Peter !!

Welcome

Welcome to my 'blogspot' ( what a word ??? )...
